Not Like Schwetty Balls

I recently had a coupon for Coast soap. I do love coupons, especially if using it actually makes the item cheaper than the product I usually buy. Oooh, bargain hunting is exhilarating! I can't believe I just admitted that.

Today was the first day of use for this Coast soap. It does smell nice...if you're a man. And today, that's how I feel, like I smell like a man. It's got a very manly odor. Not in a bad way, like schwetty balls or formunda cheese. But, like a freshly showered, shaved, and dressed man who likes to wear lots of cologne. And has a very hairy chest in which he shows off with the top two buttons of his tropical shirt unbuttoned. And his name is Stan and he wears a diamond encrusted pinky ring.

I hope I get used to the smell, the coupon was for like 10 bars. That's a awfully long time to smell manly.

I prefer to use girly-scented soaps, but on a day when my biggest plans are to sweep the kitchen floor and READ BLOGS, it seems silly to smell like Archipelego Soy Milk Bath.

My grooming routine is certainly different now that I have a child. I took looooooooong showers pre-baby. I loofahed. Never would I have used something as "grocery store" as bar soap, pshaw! Only Redken hair products for my lovingly foiled blond hair. I took time to shave my legs EVERYDAY. I used special masks on my face while washing all my 200 other body parts.

Now? During my 10 minute (max) shower, I use bar soap, wash my face with Oil of Olay facial cleanser (cause I'm getting OLD), wash and condition my hair with Suave, and shave my pits and, uh, some other parts.

This abbreviated beauty routine actually happens only on days that I have time to shower. The SUPER abbreviated beauty routine consists of brushing my teeth and putting on deodorant.

At least I make time for the most important things.

So what are your favorite beauty products for the bath and shower? Am I the only one with a Coast Soap aversion?

****Yes, I'm reminding you AGAIN!!! Don't forget to guess the weight, length, and time of birth for my daughter and win her blog naming rights! Click that link over on your right.

I'm still cracking up over "schwetty balls"-that SNL skit cracks me up every single time. Anyway, I've tried lots of fancy body washes, but the one I like the best is Caress in the original scent. I love it!

OK Stan, you crack me up.

I like liquid soap. As of this moment, I am using a 365 brand from Whole Foods...Smells like Citrus. Yum.

I just rediscovered Suave too..Not bad.

My routine is similar to yours, however, I still shave my legs every day (When I shower)

I've always been a Dove or Ivory soap user myself.

I rarely buy the same stuff twice, and I'm with you, the 2-10 minute showers don't allow for much of a beauty routine.

Two words.

Magic.Powder.

I can't believe I'm talking about this at 7am... and without a giant Margarita in front of me, no less.

Your post even inspired me to blog about it. Eek!

I like Dove and Caress for face soap (bar soap). I like Caress or Dove or Oil of Olay or--best of all--Bath & Body Works Lavender Vanilla for shower gel. I like Dove or Suave for hair, and recently I've added the stuff...what's it called...comes in brightly-colored bottles with sassy stuff about cleaning your hair like you cleaned out your ex boyfriend. Shoot. What's it called? (*checking*) SunSilk! I like the "Straighten Up" (purple) not because it does one goddamned thing to make my hair straighter, but because it makes it slippery and easy to detangle.

Oh I like the Wal Mart knock off Oil of Olay liquid soaps.

And you know i"m a total hair product snob. Only $20 conditioner for me. But really, that's becaus I have gawd awful nappy hair that MUST have massive intensive deep conditioning to look half way decent. Yeah, I have hair hang ups. It goes back to a preteen emotional trauma. But shampoo I can be cheap with and use Aussie from Target.

I happen to like Dove body wash. It leave a nice silky texture to your skin after showering. And I do shave my legs AT LEAST every other day if not every day. If I don't, I feel dirty. Not really into ultra scented stuff as it seems it makes my husband sneeze...a lot....all the time.

I'm sooooo NOT high maintenance. Being the mommy of a 3 month old and 6 y-o helps with that, but still...

Cetaphil (generic is ok) for my face (also bathe Lucky in it for his eczema and Stinkerbell's face too)

Ivory liquid bath soap (The Mighty Hunter chafes at all other brands)

Dove hairspray (smells yummy) I had used Suave for years but bought a travel size Dove and it smells sooo much better that it replaced my Suave.

Garnier leave-in conditioners and mousse

Just bought Garnier shampoo and conditioner - still need to give it a try, but it smells yummy

Neutrogena face products, even makeup. Very finicky face skin.

Basically, it has to be available at Wal-mart or I do without. We have the big Wal-mart, a very sad KMart but no Target. We're sooooo 1990s without a Target.

what is it about being mom that makes showering so hard to fit in??? I am in love with Pantenen shampoo & conditioner, do the Oil of Olay b/c I'm getting old thing, and splurge on Bare Essentials makeup (LOVE it)...

You'll be appalled. Dove bar soap in the shower for the bod. I don't wash my face (wait!) or wear makeup (yes, I'm in denial). I use either Pantene or Suave 2-in-1 on my hair and I'm a pony tail or french twist in a clip kinda gal. Moisture creme, as needed, is Parent's Choice Lavender Baby stuff cause I love the smell. Occasionally I'll do the Calgon Hawaiian Ginger body spray if I want the hubby to come a'runnin for me.

Ivory soap (the white bars, as opposed to the green bars Hubby uses ... they smell like my grandfather ... how sick is it that we can't agree on a stinkin' bar of soap?)and Redken All Soft shampoo and conditioner for my hair. I use Clinique's mild bar soap or Cetaphil on my face.

When I get more than 3 measly minutes in the shower, I also like Bath and Body Work's Warm Vanilla Sugar Body Wash/Cream and Gillete Satin Care's Vanilla shaving cream.

I only use Dove, and because I'm so cheap, I use the Walmart brand of Dove (probably named Pigeon). I do treat myself to the real Pantene, though, not the walmart brand. I'm lucky to get a shower twice a week, and I'm even luckier if I have enough time to shave anything ... although now that spring is here, ya know, the legs... just gotta get the attention. Loofahs? Ha!

Softsoap changes the scents of their body wash pretty regularly and a new is Pink Grapefruit. Love it! As for the hair, shampoo changes each time, but the conditioner is always Aussie 3 Minute Miracle.

I usually buy something different each time. There are a few products I am loyal to... St. Ives Apricot Scrub and Dove deoderant. If I'm going to use bar soap, which I usually don't, it must also be Dove. If I'm going to splurge a little, my favorite body wash and lotion is Love Spell from Victoria's Secret. On the other stuff, I just grab what looks interesting.

hey:)

i love the bath and body works lotions... right now im digging the amber something... i forget the name, oops. and for shower gel i switch it up to something that smells yummy, and shampoos... my favorite is biolage ($$$), otherwise i like treseme!

You crack me up.

I use dove soap...my skin is so damn sensitive I literally can not use anything else.

I get the feeling that I'm completely missing the DOVE boat here! Everyone is using it...I'll put in on my grocery list. This Coast soap/man smell is JUST NOT WORKING!

That SNL skit was hilarious!

I have to admit this....I have become a lushie! I *need* to smell good so I am totally addicted. www.lush.com
My husband of course bitches about he likes the way I smell too. lol

Yep, another boring recommendation for Dove unscented and Cetaphil here.

If you haven't seen the May edition of Real Simple, you must check it out. Lots of great drugstore beauty recommendations. I just splurged and bought myself some Burt's Bees lip shimmers and Beautiful Brunette finishing lotion. How luxurious for a SAHM!

Yes, I think Coast smells like a man, too!

I'm a Dial soap girl, myself. But for body wash, I like Bath & Body Works or The Body Shop stuff. They're always coming out with new stuff, but I'm partial to the vanilla scented stuff or the citrus scented stuff.

Shaving? What's that? I'm fortunate to not have to shave daily. Legs are lucky if they're shaven once a week (lucky I can get away with it); pits get shaven a couple times a week. And other places... well, that's a place where no one goes right now, it's a highly overlooked area.

Hubs and I have to use two different soaps because he likes Irish Spring. I'm more a bath gel kind of girl. I've just started using the new Island Living scent from Crabtree & Evelyn. Read about it in some magazine. Don't know if I love it. But the body scrub works well.

Only have time to shower most days now because the youngest is three.

Philosophy brand head-to-to body wash, shower gel & shampoo in one are fab-u-lous...low maintance, practical, and convenient. And oh, so girly...any scent you can imagine--among my favorites: belgian waffle, and several variations on the chocolate theme, vanilla birthday cake, strawberry ice cream, etc...available on QVC and through Sephora.

10 whole minutes? Must be nice! Actually now that Luke is almost 5, I get to shower for at least 15. If I attempt a bath, he strips down and jumps in. The only thing I am a real nut about having is face wash. The rest- just be happy water touched it today, so I will use whatever!

I like the Suave stuff (shampoo, conditioner, body wash) ... now that I, too, have a little one (before it was a maze of expensive crap). For my face, it's dermalogica ... can't skimp on that routine because I, too, am getting old (and I love it!). Ash

My kickball team is called the Schwetty Balls....you should see our t-shirts!!
Dove soap is my favorite...couldn't live without it!!
I remember parking the baby in the bouncy seat right outside my shower, so that I could stay in longer.

Oh gawd, that was funny! My routine is very much like yours. I am dying for a shower right now, but it's just not gonna happen. Sadly, I couldn't even tell you the type of soap I use.

My husband didn't appreciate the the girly soap I bought for our shower...I guess he wants something more manly. Maybe we can work out a trade.

Thanks for stopping by my blog!

You could send me your manly soap. I've always felt I didn't smell quite manly enough... especially now, when my odor has faint notes of spoiled milk and day-old avocado...

I never realised how vain I was until I had children and wrote this on reflection of the birth of my first child - http://www.gather.com/viewArticle.jsp?articleId=281474976917448

These days I'm lucky to have a shower once a week!

I love Irish Spring, it takes me back to my childhood. When I would stay at my grandfathher's house during the summer - that was in the shower I used. I buy things that smell good and remind me of good things. Right now I am using the new Dove Oil something or another body wash - vanilla and lavender, yum.
