An Epiphany of Blogger Proportions

Apparently I'm not the only one with Blogger issues.

It's quite frustrating dealing with deleted posts and error messages.

Several of you have even switched your blogs to WordPress.

I, too, had planned to jump on the WordPress bandwagon. However, after HOURS and HOURS of headache-inducing work, I've decided to stay here at my Blogspot address.

To save others the misery that has been my every free minute this weekend, I thought I'd share some of my well researched revelations.

If you want a truly customized template with any widget you could want, you'll have to have your web page hosted and go through wordpress.org which is vastly different than wordpress.com.

Wordpress.com doesn't support many customizations, javascript, or the plugins that allow for different widgets.

I hope that my misery can be helpful to those of you thinking of switching. I am just not ready to pay monthly for web hosting when I'm getting ready to pay someone to customize my template.

So, I'll remain here at Blogger. Bugs, deleted posts, and all.

Damnit.

Miss Jennifer I'm sorry that wordpress has treated you like a scorned lover. And I was just going to email you to let you know that I figured out how to get my blogger award on my sidebar. Even if you stay at blogger, I will still like you. Just remember that.

I do not blame you at all! It's a pain in the butt to convert and change everything when you like your site just fine over at blogger. I'll still visit no matter where you are. :)

If you change your mind, let me know. The host we use for my blog and the playgroup stuff offers your first year of hosting for like $9 plus a free year of domain name registration.

Blogger keeps switching my posts to "no comments," which drives me batty. They haven't lost any yet (I don't think...), but a couple of times it's told me it can't save the draft and that I should try again later.

Oh goodie. We'll still be like blogger BFFs and I can still harass you with questions of how to do such and such on blogger.

I have had a few problems with blogger, but never a deleted post. I am all about the FREE! My template cost enough- but I do think it was worth it!

I started moving over to WordPress too, but took one last shot at my blog in Blogger and low and behold it's working.

I don't know exactly what your issues are, but I had an issue with the new templates. I reverted to the classic templates and then customized from there and it worked.

My frustration with blogger is the lack of any support. Frankly, I didn't find the Blogger Group that useful either, but it seems like it should be.

This post came at the perfect time...I was going to look into Wordpress tomorrow...I've been a little freaked out by all the vanishing posts and cryptic error messages I've been hearing about. I guess I will stick with Blogger.

But I do think I am going to write to them and complain. They can't do anything about the bugs if they don't know about them.

I'm also getting worried about my blogger blog. I would love to switch to something else, I even own my own domain name already. But I don't know what to do next! So I sit, waiting for posts to start popping off.

bummer. I was hoping you'd happened upon some magic formula that you were going to share... but this sounds awfully like the realization that I came to a couple of months ago when I decided to just stick with Blogger, bugs and all. That's why we need to use more subversive methods to exact our revenge on the shoddy coders over at Google... I'm thinking of peeing in their pool, personally. want to join me?!

There are issues everywhere. Wordpress is fine with me...but I am not into all that extra stuff. :-)

thank you for the info. ive thought of making the switch too... i even went so far as setting up a "domain" (is that the right word? whatever) at wordpress. but it was just too confusing. luckily (knock on wood), i havent had any major issues with blogger yet. i like your look here! i hope it starts treating you better.

You know who is going to love this post? Aaron.

Yup. I almost switched too...but I realized blogger was closest to the best free thing out there...

Oh well.

I haven't had too many problems with blogger so I'm staying.

Ahhh, well, you already know how I feel on this subject--TORN. Thanks for the advice here though, so I don't have to learn all of that on my own. I'm not ready to make the grand switch and I'm not exactly content where I am. Sigh.

I love TypePad. Why am I all by myself?

I started with wordpress...I am used to it. I am not ready to pay for it yet either...so I will stay with WP.com

I just moved my blogger blog over to my domain & wordpress last week and found it to be really easy, but I've been messing with this stuff for years.

I would suggest, in any case, to at least keep your blogger blog mirrored at wordpress so that if they do keep deleting stuff on you, it's safe over there. :)
