Mama Had a Kidney Stone

And I thought labor was bad!

Kidney stones, especially those blocking tubes making it so you can't pee, hurt way worse than labor ever hurt. Way worse. Like a million times worse.

I remember very little from Wednesday. I do remember being in severe pain, unable to pee, and cussing. Lots and lots of cussing. I'm pretty sure I scared the bejeezus out of several nurses, doctors, ultrasound techs, X-ray techs, and especially Tate.

Although I hated to, I agreed to 2 X-Rays (ended up getting 4), Demerol (which was completely worthless), some anti-inflammatory drug (very bad this close to delivery), and "surgery". Seeing as I didn't so much as take a Tums when I was pregnant with Peanut, I am quite worried about the side effects of all these interventions. Petunia has been monitored and is doing well, I just hope there aren't any long term effects. All the doctors and nurses assured Tate and me that these meds and procedures most likely wouldn't harm the baby. (We did get a really cool picture of Petunia inside of me.)

Yesterday, I had "surgery" to remove the kidney stone. I've always considered surgery to be where they cut you. Luckily no cutting was involved, just a tube up my tinkler and a laser to break apart the stone. Doc said it was a very large stone. No shit. I have a stent which is incredibly uncomfortable, but still better than the ginormous kidney stone. Can't wait until Monday to have the stent removed so that I won't feel the urge to pee ALL THE TIME anymore.

Thanks everyone for your kind words. It was so nice to come home yesterday with 60+ messages in my inbox. Tate was impressed!

RE: Tagged, Spread the Love post...I have no clue what any of it meant either. Deep links? No idea. I don't have too gooda smarts in the computery world.

I am so glad you are home and ok! I had gall stones my last pregnancy and that turned me into the meanest person alive! I was in the hospital for 3 weeks until they decided to induce, although I was yelling at them constantly to take "IT" out (the kid) so I could get really good drugs for the pain!

I've heard kidney stones are way worse! Hope you are able to recoup smoothly!

60+ comments? I'm impressed. Methinks I'm going to have to get a kidney stone to improve my comment section. I kid. Seriosuly though, I'm glad you are feeling better. That's great news on a Friday!

OMG!! so sorry! i just went through this--it is so bad! They kept telling me "worst case scenario we will just have to wean the baby off percocet after delivery"--ok,great! My stone didn't obstruct though and hasn't bothered me yet again? So sorry--then you get the bladder infection+antibiotics=yeast infection--ugh! Guys just don't get it at all--how much we go through! I am sure Petunia is fine! Surprised she didn't come out w/ all the pain-induced contractions. Not much longer now.

I'm SO glad you're feeling better!!! Like the last few weeks of pregnancy aren't uncomfortable enough, but at least they got it taken care of quickly.

You poor thing! That sounds really awful. At least you're ready for labor now, right? It'll be nothing compared to that!

Hope you're feeling better soon.

Glad you are home, too! I had a kidney stone a couple of years ago but I can't even begin to imagine the pain that you went through with being pregos and all. You are a stronger person than I!

So glad you're feeling better. I'm sure Petunia will be fine. I can't imagine the doctors would do anything that would hurt her.

I took demerol twice while pg with Lucky. Narcotics are amazingly "safe" during pg - when medically necessary, of course. But it was my HEAD that was hurting - not my PISSER.

Sorry. I just can't be serious all the dang time.

Anyway, really really glad you're home and better. Put your feet up and catch up reading your fave blogs.

Big hug

I'm so glad you're okay. I was going to e-mail your shake-shake friend if you didn't have a post today. Kidney stones are a huge fear of mine. I can add yours to my list of horror stories I've heard.
Take it easy and have a good weekend!

Ack, what a day! I'm glad you're out of the hospital and doing well. Just tell me... how have you gotten to this point in your pg without feeling like you need to pee all the time already?? :)

YAY!

So glad you're at home and better! I am sure Petunia is fine- she's done developing now anyway (just growing) so that stuff shouldn't have any lasting effects.

Glad you got it sorted - I have heard from other women who've had them that kidney stones hurt way worse than labor - all I can say is God Bless you!!! At least this way delivery will be a breeze right? ;)

Oh gosh, I have had a kidney stone. By the time I got to the hospital, it had passed. But I felt like I was dying in the process! Glad you are feeling better.
