Just Cause I Like to Torture Her

Please examine the following picture. It is a picture of my sling which I won from Cool Mom Picks.

Very stylish, huh!

Now please take a peek inside the sling.

Do you see any spikes, stinging insects, vise grips, poison ivy, thorns, whips, chains, or anything that could possibly be considered a torture device?

I don't see anything either.

But there must be something in that sling that causes the reaction I get from Ella every time I attempt to put her in it.

It's a bit of an understatement to say she hates the sling. Despises, loathes, abhors, severe revulsion, repulsion...I think you get the picture.

Damn, I'm going to look awfully silly wearing this sans baby.

Nate was the same way. The only carrier he did not scream in was the Bjorn, and he wanted to face out as soon as he could hold his head steady. His Royal Highness had particular tastes.

Nice sling - and it even matches your blog layout. I tried to use one, but jut couldn't get it together. Maybe next time around someone more coordinated than I can help me out.

Loved the Bjorn, though. What a lifesaver.

I wonder if I could get one for my nearly three year old?

Beautiful sling. I wanted to wear my babies so bad, but both reacted...uh...negatively every time I put them in it. (And yes, babywearers, I gave them plenty of time to adjust AND kept moving the whole time they were in it.) They both just liked to be in the big, wide open.

Good luck...maybe she'll get used to it eventually. If not, maybe you could make a cute something out of it :)

Blue Momma stole my comment! I took was going to say at the very least it matches your blog. So tell Ella to suck it up because matching is always a good thing. (I'm kidding, sometimes matching isn't good. And oh yeah, I guess I'm kidding about Ella having to 'suck it up'.) :)

It does match my blog, doesn't it!!! I didn't even notice til you all pointed it out!

Ah, the invisible poker...know it well.

Keep trying her in it and she'll probably eventually like it. Mine enjoys hers now but she didnt' at first. I finally just had to vacuum the dog hair one day and toted her along against her protests and she finally slept and it's been good going ever since.

How about the Baby Bjorn? That was the only thing that worked for my 3!

ha ha! Babies can be SO contrary! Maybe you could use it as a purse, or to carry a picnic lunch??

Maybe you can use it to carry snacks around. Or a tiny puppy. Okay, not like you need one more butt to wipe - cancel the puppy.

Ooooh, that sling is SO cute! The only one that DV ever liked was the mama roo from http://www.mamaroobabysling.com./newsite/BabySling.html

Let me know if you want to give it a try :)

Also, some babies like sitting in the sling vs. laying- did you try that??

Good luck!

I'm with Jennie. Are you laying her down or have you tried the sitting position?

Cara acted like I was KILLING her if I ever tried to lay her down in her sling.

It really is pretty. I hope it works for you guys.

I have tried her sitting up and she'll tolerate it for about 5 minutes. Maybe she'll get better.

She LOVES the baby bjorn, but her neck just isn't strong enough yet and putting her in it and supporting her neck is a lot of work for me!

Beth said...

Yep--we were in the baby bjorn, face-out-only club, too. William would have absolutely NOTHING to do with a sling. Or with being face-in the bjorn. Hope her neck gets strong enough soon!

If all else fails, perhaps you can turn it into a cute handbag? Or, ahem, pass it along to a soon-to-be mama of a newborn, such as myself? That is too cute to go to waste, is all...

That's why we have no less than 4 different types of baby carriers - ring sling, mei tai, wrap, and mei hip. Two of those will be more useful when she's older, but for now the ring sling and wrap work occasionally.

Maybe try different positions and see what she likes best? Also, just getting her used to it takes time, too. Not all babies like to be worn at first.

Stacey said...

Of course its because you like it so much that she refuses to be in it.

Isn't that always the way ? *sigh*

Well, I've secretly been conducting illegitimate research on you too and I have come to the conclusion that she doesn't like the sling b/c of your sweaty pits.

Have you tried it since discovering the new deodorant?

I bet that was the problem. Your stanky pits.

I think they (babies) sometimes take sometime getting used to them. Does it fit you correctly?

Try it when she is a little older. Very cute print!

My 3rd hated the swing of all things. I never was a "baby wearer" so Im sadly no help whatsoever.

I tried all the sling/carriers out there. The olny thing that Bubbie tolerated on short stints was the Baby Bjorn, and only if my husband carried him in it,

mine lived in the Baby Bjorn....I tried to be a sling mom, but it just didn't work for us.

That is one gorgeous implement of baby torture. Maybe she'll change her mind in a little while? Failing that, would it be possible to alter it into a mini-skirt (ha ha)?

That's it. Something's going on eBay. It's either the kid or the sling. Your choice! Oh, maybe you could even put it to a vote and we Internets could decide!

shauna said...

Oh, put it on eBay. My mom loves that site and calls to tell me everytime she "wins" something.

My baby didn't like the sling either.

Eilidh was the same way, hated the sling and any diffrent way we tried to carry her. These kids love to torture us
