The Bloggy Family Tree
My very first comment ever from someone I didn't know personally was mommiebear2 at Who Cries Over Spilled Milk. Not long after, I got comments from Brandy at It's Like I'm Magic and from Aaron from Outdoor Living. Not only was I excited BEYOND BELIEF by these comments, I was also a tad confused.
For the life of me, I can't figure out how on Earth they found me. So if yous guys are reading, how did you get here?
This leads me to my topic....how do you find the blogs you read? And most importantly, of course, how did you find me?
The vast majority of the people I read, I've found because of a comment they've left here at Playgroups are No Place for Children. Your blogrolls have also led me to some great reads. Sometimes, the groups in my sidebar have led me to new blogs. I especially like "The Good Blogs" since they include the title to recent posts. Sometimes a title of a blog gets my attention, or a picture left in My Blog Log.
You wouldn't believe the joy I feel when I check my Site Meter or Technorati and see a blog I don't recognize and find my lil' ol' blog on someone's blogroll. This also brings me unbelievable guilt since I don't keep a traditional blogroll, but instead share items via Google Reader.
I also feel as giddy as a school girl when I get linked or mentioned in someone's post. It absolutely makes my day when I get chosen by Erika at Plain Jane Mom for her Go Read it Today Posts!!!! (These GRIT posts have also introduced me to some fabulous blogs, by the way...so if you're not reading her, you should!)
So back to my question...How do you find the blogs you read? And how did you find me?

42 People are even more brilliant:
I found you by a comment you left somewhere else...
I also find blogs by clicking NEXT Blog on the blogger bar at the top....
and search engines...
- Jon
- Daddy Detective
- www.daddydetective.com
I got to you thru Heather's site... And on the rare occasions that I actually have time (I mean, am procrastinating)I read other blogs by following links from the people I know's pages.
hmm...I find blogs everywhere. I have no idea how I found yours. :) I do random searches on Technorati sometimes and find blogs that way.
Probably from a link on someone else's blog.
I'm almost sure I found your blog via Suburban Oblivion - I found SO through a message board. People's blogrolls, and posted links are how I find the majority of interesting blogs I come across.
Sometimes I blog-surf, going from blog to blog and clicking in the blogrolls. Sometimes I find blogs because the blogger found MY blog and left a comment, and I went to go see who had such marvelous taste as to be reading my blog. I think I found your blog through one of those two methods, and I think it was the first one.
How did I find you? Well, as Heather pointed out, someone let all the inmates out of the insane asylum and pointed them to our playgroup...
I find a lot of blogs from either comment links or links actually in the blogs.
Toni was the first person to leave a comment on mine and I think I found your from Toni's blogroll. I find most of mine through others blogroll and from comments left on mine.
Oh boy... I can't be positive, but I *think* you left a comment on my blog... which I promptly followed right into playgroupie delightfulness! I find new blogs by 1) people who comment on mine, 2) links on blogs that I read, 3) sites like spicy blog or blogger's choice awards.
Clickity clicking. Not sure how I got to YOUR blog...but I probably went to a friend's and clicked on a link in her blogroll and so on and so forth. Sometimes someone comes across mine and comments and I usually check theirs out. Sometimes I check out the recent posts or hot posts of Wordpress (where my blog is) and find people there.
I get excited too when someone comments on my blog...especially if it is a someone who hasn't commented before!
I can't remember either, which is sad because it hasn't been all that long ago. I would guess it was from a comment you left somewhere else that I found to be particularly witty or engaging.
I'm feeling a lot of pressure now to leave witty and enlightening comments!!! I had no idea that people got here thru my own comments.
I, too, click on comments from others blogs. When I find a reoccurring commenter on the same blog(s) I'm reading, I'm more interested in reading their site. :-) Because you must be fabulous if you are reading what I am!
Oh, Jennifer I wish I could remember but I have no idea!! I think that I found you through the comments of someone elses site, but again I have no idea. I know that I love your blog name, so there's a chance that was the draw. But you always leave such darn nice comments so, that could have been it. Either way, I'm glad I found you! You are one of my favourite reads. Oh, and the link you set to my site isn't working. Man. ONE day at wordpress and this is already happening!! ;)
You know... I don't even remember anymore. I'm sure I saw your comment on someone's blog I frequent and since I didn't recognize your name, I clicked your profile and read your blog. I found it so entertaining (especially when you stright-through your thoughts and write smoething else) that I added it to Google Reader and read it with the best of them. :)
I anxiously await all the cute blogs you'll write after you download Petunia. :D
I honestly don't remember how I found your blog in particular. I think the very first blog I read was Suburban Bliss. I found her link in an article about "happy hour playdates" and "momtinis". From that point I was hooked. Most of my other first reads were through links. I'd hop from one person's blog to another by a link in their blogroll. Now.... I've lost track of how many blogs I read. I'm an addict. They should have a group for blog addicts.
I think I found your blog when you left a comment at mine. I usually find new blogs through comments left at my blog, other people's blogrolls, or comments left at other people's blogs. It's pretty random, truthfully.
I have no idea how I found you. I usually look at other blog rolls. Your little pic always makes me laugh...so it could have been a comment you left or from another blog roll.
I'm racking my brain. I don't know how I found you.
Probably from one of the methods above -- I use all of them except the random surfing.
It's a really interesting question. Thanks for thinking of it, clever person.
I found you by looking at the communites of other people on mybloglog.com. I wrote about it here in the first paragraph
I also find blogs via comments, blog rolls, people commenting on my blog.
I found you through Erika at Plain Jane Mom. I love how she has her GRIT posts everyday. I always find great blogs through her.
Yes I would probably die and go to blog heaven if she linked a post of mine to her GRIT.
I stalked you at the grocery store, saw ALL the ice cream you were buying, followed you home and saw you blogging!
Seriously- I don't remember!
I found you because you like to boss me around and told me to read it. hehe!
As far as other blogs, I'm still finding them. I wish I had more time to find even more! There aren't enough hours in the day to catch all of the great blogs out there. I'll stalk your google reader and sara's too for new ones to read. And through links on blogs I already read.
I find a lot of blogs from the links other bloggers make to posts they like.
I often wonder how people get all the readers they have... it seems like commenting on other blogs is a good way to do it!
I find most blogs through blogrolls or comments. Or links. (gotta love the linky love). I think I found you through motherhood uncensored...
Good question, though.
when I first started to look at blogs I did a blog search for "mommy blogs", I found "Oh, the joys", from there "Erika @ Plain Jane". I read her GRIT blog and came upon yours.
Now I read yours!
I get caught up in clicking blogrolls and comments. Then I can never remember how I found someone. But it was probably on someone's blogroll or a comment!
hmmmm..... I found you because you list your blog on our playgroup forum. I find blogs of people I don't know by randomly following links that look interesting...
I found you through the center of the blogging Universe.........TONI! And now I see we share some of the same bloggy friends, like one big incestuous bloggy circle!
My blogging manifesto is simple, I visit the people who reciprocate comments. That's my entire secret formula.
It wasn't that long ago, but I can't seem to remember if I found your blog by clicking on a blogroll or a comment. Either way, I'm so glad I did. And I love the posts you spotlight everyday via Google Reader. I've found some great blogs through that!
I think you commented on my blog first but I had seen you commenting other places. I started out finding most blogs through blogrolls; now it's often through comments.
Umm...I think I find blogs about the same way you do. From comments on my blog or on other blogs, from The Good Blogs etc.
When I first started blogging and used Blogger, I would do that "next blog" thing but I always got weird blogs or blogs in foreign languages. Then I discovered the undergound mommy blogger scene...lol
I think you found me first! And I loved the title of your blog and how you were always so good about commenting! And now, I think its safe to say we're all a bunch of blog addicts. "Hi, my name is Sarah and I'm addicted to blogging."
I find most of the blogs I read from Blog Lists on other people's blog. And I also find them from people leaving comments on the blogs I read. That's how I found you. I believe it was from a comment you left on Swistle's blog.
I think you left me a comment. Or I read a comment of yours on another site.
I found you through a comment you left on Moosh in Indy. Good luck w/ the birthin'!
Blog lists on OPBs and comment sections of OPBs!!
Can't remember exactly how I got to yours, but I'm glad I did!!
I found you through Suburban Oblivion. I normally find the blogs I read from blogrolls and comments on my own blog....I have no idea how people find me either!
Gosh it seems like a very long time ago when I found you, which if I remember correctly was off of someone's blog but I cannot for the life of me remember who's. And I have been coming back ever since. :)
Indie Bloggers! (he says, adding an 'of course!" subtext)
I'm also enjoying cruising through your archives.
I found ya through google :)
